Premise: A poor trash collector in the outskirts of the galaxy yells at some people making her job harder, who turn out to be the the galactic Expani Empire’s prince and princess. The princess pays her to come onto the reality show to marry off the prince and princess to win the prince’s heart. She wins him over before they even arrive at the show, where the murders start happening.
I thought this book was perfect until I reached the end.
It’s well paced. The characters have depth and their own aims and are quite easy to root for. The prose flows easily without being burdensome. It hits every romance beat with aplomb, and even though the murder mystery starts late, it’s done well.
But actually… It hits every romance beat except the happily ever after.
I needed a little more forewarning, because that was super disappointing.
On the flip side, I’m still invested in the galactic intrigue and the future of these characters.
Verdict: This book could redeem itself if it’s the beginning of a trilogy, and I would read the other two.
